Questions about Trove Notes

What it does, what it costs, who can see it, and what happens to your memories if you leave.

Getting started

What is Trove Notes?

A private archive of your child, and a book of it every year. Once a month we start a short conversation — we ask the questions, you answer in your own words — and turn your answers into a note written in your voice, addressed to them. Around their birthday, everything from that year becomes a keepsake book.

You can also just jot things down as they happen. Most people do both.

Do I have to know what to write?

No — that’s the point of the conversation. A blank page is the reason most journals stop. We ask a few specific questions instead, you answer like you’re texting a friend, and we do the writing. You edit anything that doesn’t sound like you, or save it as-is.

How long does it take?

About five minutes a month. That’s the whole commitment.

Is there a free trial?

Thirty days, and we don’t ask for a card to start. If you decide it isn’t for you, nothing happens when the trial ends.

What it costs

How much is it?

$40 a year for your first child, or $4 a month. Paying yearly is about two months free. Each additional child costs less — so three children is $75 a year, not $120. You pay per child, never per person.

Per year, per child
ChildPer yearPer month
First$40$4.00
Second$20$2.00
Third$15$1.50
Fourth and beyond$10$1.00
Does everyone in the family need to pay?

No. Invite as many people as you like — co-parents, grandparents, aunts, sitters — and they contribute for free. Only children are counted.

What does a printed book cost?

It depends on how thick it is, because that’s what printing a hardcover actually costs. An annual book starts at $59 and a Letters book at $49, rising with page count. Standard US shipping is included in every price — there’s no separate shipping charge at checkout.

Printing is always optional: a one-time charge, only when you order. Your subscription includes the book as a print-ready PDF you can download and keep. We ship to US addresses only for now.

Can I give it as a gift?

Yes. You can buy someone a year, and they redeem it into a new archive or an existing one. Gift pricing follows the same ladder — $40 for one child, $60 for two, $75 for three.

How it works day to day

How do I add something?

Three ways, and you can mix them freely.

Text it. Send a photo or a sentence to our number and it saves to your child’s archive. Tag which child with #Sam if you have more than one.

Email it. Every child has their own email address, shown on their page. Anything you send there is saved, attachments included.

Write it in the app. There’s a box on their page.

Can I add photos and video?

Yes, both. Photos appear on the timeline and in the book. Video lives in the archive and gets a QR code in the printed book, so a page can play a clip.

What if I miss a month?

Nothing bad. We’ll check in again. If you ignore several in a row we take the hint and go quieter rather than nagging — and you can always start a conversation yourself.

Can I choose how often you check in?

Yes — monthly is the default, and each adult on the archive sets their own rhythm. You can also add your own dates: an adoption day, the first day of school, the day you brought them home.

The book

When does the book get made?

Around your child’s birthday, we’ll tell you it’s ready to put together. You choose what goes in, write a dedication and a closing letter, and generate it. We don’t make it for you automatically — it’s your book, and the choosing is part of it.

What if I only started a few months ago?

If there isn’t a year’s worth in there yet, we hold the first book until the next birthday rather than making a nearly empty one. You can always build a book of any date range yourself, whenever you want.

Can I make a book that isn’t the annual one?

Yes — a calendar year, any custom range, or a Letters book that collects just the notes written to your child. Same designs, made whenever you like.

Privacy

Who can see what I write?

Only the people you invite to that child’s archive. Nothing is public, there’s no feed, and nothing is shared anywhere else.

Can I write something nobody else sees?

Yes. Mark a note “Only me” and it stays private to you while still going into your child’s book. Other adults on the archive can see that a private note exists — not what it says.

Do you use our memories to train AI?

No. Your archive is used to write your notes, and nothing else. Our AI provider processes that content under a data processing agreement and does not train its models on it.

Who else touches our photos?

Only when you order a printed book. To print it, our press has to receive it — so the finished book, including its photographs and letters, goes to them for that order. If you never order a print, nothing from your archive is ever sent to a printer.

Leaving

Can I get my memories out?

Any time, without asking us. Export gives you a single file containing every entry and every photo — readable without our software. The books are PDFs you already have.

What happens if I cancel?

We make a final book covering the time since your last one, then keep the archive readable for 90 days so you can export everything. We’ll remind you at 30, 60 and 85 days. After that it’s deleted.

What if you go out of business?

Export whenever you like, and keep the files. The books are yours already — a PDF on your own drive doesn’t need us to exist. We built the export that way deliberately.
